Vu TelePresence to offer new service through Vidtel

Vu TelePresence Inc., a video conferencing services provider for small and midsized businesses, is launching a new multi-vendor video conferencing capability through Vidtel, a cloud any-to-any video conferencing service company. With Vidtel's MeetMe multi-party video conferencing service, Vu customers can cost-effectively conference with up to twelve participants across H.323, SIP, Skype and Google GTalk systems, the company said.

Vidtel's cloud service bridges together a variety of devices, from room systems, video phones, PCs/Macs, tablets and smartphones from different vendors. The service is tailored to the small-medium enterprise market as a monthly subscription fee or on a per-minute basis, enabling multi-vendor, multi-party connectivity without exorbitant upfront costs or on-going fees.

Prior to the Vidtel's service, Vu users were only able to connect to other Vu users for multi-party video conferences. Vu customers can use the Vidtel MeetMe service to talk to other standard (e.g., Polycom, Cisco, LifeSize) and non-standard (Skype, GoogleTalk) users. Combined with Vidtel's service, Vu endpoints will now be able to place and participate in multi-party video conferences with SIP, H.323, Skype and Google without the need to go through the more expensive video exchange services. Meanwhile, Vidtel will have the opportunity to demonstrate an expansion of devices that interoperate on its network and leverage the installed base of Vu customers.

"As the demand for video conferencing continues to escalate, our relationship with Vu benefits the SME marketplace," said Scott Wharton, CEO of Vidtel. "Now Vu's customer base will have the opportunity to easily access the Vidtel MeetMe service, which provides them with an enterprise-grade conferencing solution that is both easy to implement, cost-effective and more complete in the array of video endpoints able to be used by participants. Vu's market penetration also allows Vidtel to gain access to a wider customer base."

"Vidtel is a good strategic fit for Vu," said Devita Saraf, co-founder of Vu TelePresence. "Both Vu and Vidtel are focused on delivering high-quality, cost-effective video conferencing to the SME market. The Vidtel service complements our recent SIP interoperability development and allows our customers to interact with a broad array of technologies, both standards-based (SIP, H.323) and non-standard (Skype, Google) without investing in server infrastructure."
