Aylus raises $16 million
Aylus Networks, a provider of infrastructure software for allowing video communications services over mobile networks, has announced raising $16 million in funding.

The financing was led by U.K.-based m8 Capital led the financing. Existing investors Matrix Partners and North Bridge Venture Partners also contributed to the financing round.



Kensington Capital backs Indian startup Village Laundry
Kensington Capital has joined several other investors in backing India's Village Laundry Service in a first round of venture capital funding.

Joining Kensington in backing the company are Index Advisory and a private India-based investor. Village Laundry Service received seed-stage backing from Innosight Ventures.



Taqua buys Tatara Systems
Asa Kalavade's Tatara Systems, a provider of mobile telephony products, has been acquired by Taqua, a supplier of switching and small cell deployment products. Financial terms of the deal were not released.

Tatara Systems is headquartered in Acton, Mass., while Taqua is headquartered in Richardson, Texas. Taqua has additional research development facilities in Hyannis and Toronto and will keep Tatara System's Acton facility running. 



Virtusa buys ALaS Consulting for $27.8M
In a move designed to add business in the capital markets and investment banking industries, Virtusa Corp. has acquired ALaS Consulting LLC for $27.8 million.

Westborough-based Virtusa is an IT services company that offers business consulting and outsourcing services. ALaS, which is headquartered in New York, provides consulting and advisory services to financial services companies.

Dunkin' Donuts bakes up India expansion

Coffee and donuts giant Dunkin' Donuts is targeting continued global expansion this year and the company is banking on India to help fuel this growth. Earlier this year, the company signed its largest-ever international deal to open 500 stores in India over the next 15 years.

The Canton, Mass.-based Dunkin' Donuts, which is part of Dunkin' Brands Inc., is entering the Indian market through an agreement with Jubilant FoodWorks Ltd. Jubilant FoodWorks will develop, sub-franchise and operate the 500 stores in India. The company said it expects the first Dunkin' Donuts store to open in India in 2012.

Dunkin' Brands' Chief Executive Officer and Dunkin' Donuts' President Nigel Travis traveled to India earlier this year to meet Jubilant FoodWorks Chief Executive Officer Ajay Kaul and welcome the company to the brand.

A new study by the Confederation of Indian Industry claims that India-based companies are responsible for saving thousands of jobs in the United States in recent years and have continued to hire locally whenever they expand here.


Ocean Spray readies Indian expansion
Ocean Spray Cranberries Inc. has appointed Arun Hiranandani managing director of the Asia-Pacific region and he will lead the company's charge into India.

Hiranandani, who has been with Ocean Spray for the past 11 years, will be responsible for all of its existing Asia-Pacific branded business operations with a focus on further expanding the market for Ocean Spray's food and beverage products into India and China, the company said.

AMAG Pharmaceuticals Inc. will merge with Allos Therapeutics Inc. in a deal of two publicly traded Nasdaq companies worth an estimated $686 million.
