Bhargava | WASHINGTON – The Specialty Steel Industry of North America recently named Sunil Y. Widge, chief technology officer emeritus of Carpenter Technology Corp., to the post of chairman. Widge succeeds outgoing Chairman Douglas A. Kittenbrink, who has held the position since 2007.
A 32-year Carpenter Technology Corp. veteran, Widge was recently named chief technology officer emeritus of the company, where his responsibilities included directing the expansion of the company's high profile scientific capability in specialty alloy materials technology and promoting new products, according to the Washington-based Specialty Steel Industry.
STONEHAM, Mass – Mala Umapathy recently joined the Akshaya Patra Foundation as the director of corporate development for their U.S. operations, and Seema Joshi joined the Stoneham-based non-profit as the director of grassroots development.
Umapathy will oversee corporate and grant fundraising, said the company.
Umapathy has served on the board of many non-profit organizations and continues to volunteer with selected charitable organizations. In her role, Joshi will build grassroots support for the organization and provide leadership to current chapters and those in formation.
Prior to joining the foundation, Joshi served as a staff attorney at the Legal Aid Society Brooklyn Office for the Aging.
PITTSBURGH – Kannan Srinivasan, a marketing professor at Pittsburgh-based Carnegie Mellon University's Tepper School of Business, received the first Rohet Tolani Distinguished Professorship in International Business.
The Distinguished Professorship was created to further academic research and education relating to developing markets in nations including Singapore, India, China, Africa and in other areas of the world.
Srinivasan has published more than 50 papers in business and statistics journals in the areas of marketing and management science. Srinivasan also serves as associate editor of Management Science, area editor of Marketing Science, and associate editor of Quantitative Marketing and Economics.
Srinivasan, also the H.J. Heinz II Professor of Management of Marketing and Information Systems, worked as a product manager for Proctor & Gamble prior to earning his doctorate of philosophy at the University of California at Los Angeles.
MENLO PARK, Calif. – The World Economic Forum awarded Navin Chaddah, managing director at Menlo Park-based Mayfield Fund, a Young Global Leader Award.
The honor recognized between 200 and 300 outstanding young leaders from around the world for their professional accomplishments, commitment to society and potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world. This marks the second time that Chaddha has been awarded an honor by the forum.
The young global leaders convene at biannual summits, as well as forum events and meetings throughout the year, and collaborate on initiatives to tackle some of the key challenges of this generation, according to the forum.
“As we currently face one of the most challenging times economically and socially, the Young Global Leaders are even more important in developing, designing and leading a world committed to positive change,” said Klaus Schwab, the forum’s founder and executive chairman.
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – Nimesh Shah is Friendster Inc.’s new chief financial officer.
The appointment will strengthen Friendster's position as a leading social network and help drive growth in Asia and worldwide, said the company.
Shah previously held the position of finance director while at Fairfax Digital, an Australian provider of online news and classifieds. Prior to Fairfax, Shah held senior positions at Ernst & Young, Dell Computer and UUNET.
As chief financial officer, Shah will manage Friendster's global financial planning, statutory and management reporting, auditing and oversee corporate development initiatives, according to the Mountain View-based company.
Shah will be based in Friendster's Sydney, Australia office, along with Kimber.
ARLINGTON, Mass. – Leader Bank North America, recently named professor V.G. Narayanan as the newest director of Leader Bancorp Inc. and its subsidiaries.
"He brings a great deal of leadership as well as community and financial knowledge that will augment the already impressive range of expertise of the existing board members, which is especially valuable in these challenging economic times," said Sushil K. Tuli, Leader Bank’s president and chief executive officer.
V.G. Narayanan is the Thomas D. Casserly, Jr. Professor of Business Administration at the Harvard Business School, where his research interests are mainly in managerial accounting, with an emphasis on inter-organizational control issues and aligning incentives in supply chains, according to Leader Bank, based in Arlington.
Narayanan brings to Leader Bank his expertise in the study of customer profitability measurements and customer relationship management within the retail banking industry, said the company.
IRVINE, Calif. – Qasim Nawab recently joined Suffolk Construction's West Coast office, based in Irvine, as director of preconstruction services.
A senior construction professional, Nawab brings 30 years of experience as an estimator, over 20 of those in Southern California, according to the office.
"I am an estimator to the bone, guiding clients through every step of the process – from conceptual design until we have a guaranteed maximum price. With no surprises clients are able to make the most informed and timely decisions," Nawab said.
Nawab earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Baroda, India, and a master’s degree in structural/civil engineering from Marquette University.

Bhargava | NEW YORK – WNS Holdings Ltd., a provider of business outsourcing, appointed Neeraj Bhargava, WNS co-founder and chief executive officer, to the role of strategic advisor until another successor can be named. This transition is expected to take place in the second half of 2009.
Bhargava started his career with WNS as co-founder, president and chief financial officer in 2002. A year later, Bhargava took over as chief executive officer. In 2006, under Bhargava's leadership, the company became the first Indian-heritage business processing outsourcing company to successfully complete a listing on the New York Stock Exchange, according to the company.
