New Delhi–Domestic air passenger traffic increased by 25.82 per cent during July to 85.08 lakh, budget carrier SpiceJet leading the flock with over 90 per cent capacity utilisation, official data showed on Friday.

The domestic passenger traffic during the corresponding month of last year stood at 67.62 lakh.

The data furnished by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) further showed that the passenger traffic during January-July period grew by 23 per cent.

SpiceJet-logo“Passengers carried by domestic airlines during January-July 2016 were 560.87 lakh as against 455.95 lakh during the corresponding period of previous year thereby registering a growth of 23.01 per cent,” the DGCA said in its statistical analysis for the last month.

During June, passenger traffic had risen by 20.81 per cent to 79.75 lakh from 66.01 lakh in the corresponding month last year.

The data showed that low-cost carrier (LCC) SpiceJet had the highest passenger load factor (PLF) during the month under review at over 90 per cent.

“SpiceJet has registered more than 90 per cent PLF for 15 consecutive months; the highest in each month in Indian skies,” the budget passenger carrier said in a statement.

The LCC was followed by budget passenger carriers — AirAsia India (90.2) and GoAir (84.6).

Further, the data on the on-time performance showed that Vistara led the industry with 80.3 per cent punctuality rate at four major airports of Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai.

It was followed by SpiceJet (79.2), IndiGo (76.8), Jet Airways and JetLite (73.2) and Air India (71.1) domestic operations being on schedule.

Meanwhile, Air Pegasus had the highest number of cancellations at 29.67 per cent followed by Trujet (17.38), Jet Lite (0.93) Air India (0.88), AirAsia India (0.65), Indigo (0.40) and Spicejet (0.28).

“The overall cancellation rate of scheduled domestic airlines for the month of July 2016 has been 0.70 per cent,” the aviation regulator said.

According to the data, a total of 948 passenger related complaints had been received last month.

Budget passenger carrier IndiGo achieved the highest market share in the month under review at 39.8 per cent followed by Jet Airways (16.3), Air India (14.8), SpiceJet (11.7), GoAir (8.4) and JetLite (2.8).

Vistara reported a market share of 2.6 per cent, followed by AirAsia India (2.2), Air Costa (0.8), Trujet (0.3) and Air Pegasus (0.2). (IANS)
