Kolkata– A father-son duo was arrested in West Bengal on Friday for allegedly causing revenue loss to the government and posing a security threat by routing international Voice Over Internet Protocol calls to domestic telecom network bypassing international gateways.

Ratan Shaw and his father Ramesh Shaw were picked up from Rishra in Hooghly district in a joint raid by the Criminal Investigation Department and the Department of Telecom officials, police said.

The Shaws had set up an “illegal installation” to route the international VOIP calls to the domestic telecom network.

Cases have been filed against them under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including cheating, causing wrongful loss, forgery, criminal conspiracy, criminal intimidation, common intention as also under the IT and the Indian Telegraph Act.

Call routing equipment and SIM cards have been seized from the two. (IANS)
